Whether you’re looking to set up an outdoor patio, cafe seating, or a garden space, you can find the perfect pieces to appeal to your customers. But before you buy casual outdoor seating, there are a few things to keep in mind. You should consider the types of outdoor furniture available and their features, materials, and benefits. This is where a commercial outdoor seating mega guide can help. It provides you with skilled advice from experts in the outdoor seating industry and enables you to choose the best outdoor seating for your business.

In our mega guide, we’ll discuss the following regarding commercial outdoor seating:

Types of Commercial Outdoor Seating

Creating an inviting and functional outdoor space is essential for businesses looking to attract customers and provide a pleasant environment for patrons to relax and enjoy their surroundings. One crucial element that can significantly enhance outdoor spaces is the selection of appropriate commercial outdoor seating. From patio furniture to outdoor benches and picnic tables, a variety of seating options are available to suit different needs and preferences. We will explore the various types of seating and their features, helping you make informed decisions when furnishing your outdoor areas.

Patio Furniture

Patio furniture is a versatile option for outdoor seating, commonly found in restaurants, cafes, and other commercial establishments. It offers both comfort and style, making it ideal for creating inviting outdoor dining and lounging spaces. Tables and chairs are the cornerstones of dining patio furniture. They come in a range of materials such as aluminum, wrought iron, wood, and plastic, each with its own unique characteristics. Depending on the desired aesthetic and durability, businesses can choose from a variety of designs and sizes to accommodate different group sizes and layouts. To provide protection from the sun and create a comfortable outdoor environment, umbrellas, and shade options are essential. Patio and market umbrellas are available in various sizes, shapes, and materials, providing both functionality and appeal. In addition to umbrellas, shade structures, pergolas, or shelters can also be incorporated into outdoor seating areas to offer shade and protect patrons from the elements as a long-term shade solution.

Outdoor Benches

Outdoor benches are a popular choice for parks, gardens, and public spaces, as well as commercial venues with outdoor seating requirements. They provide a practical and communal seating solution while adding a touch of elegance to the outdoor ambiance. Benches are available in a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, concrete, and recycled plastic. Each material offers unique advantages in terms of durability, maintenance, and aesthetics. Additionally, benches can be found in various styles, such as classic, modern, or rustic, allowing businesses to choose a design that complements the overall theme of their outdoor space. Businesses may have specific requirements for their outdoor benches. Customization options include the ability to add engraved logos, armrests, or backrests, allowing for a personalized touch. When selecting outdoor benches, durability is a crucial factor to consider, as they must withstand constant exposure to changing weather conditions and heavy usage.

Picnic Tables

Picnic tables come in a variety of sizes and seating capacities, making them ideal for use in parks, campgrounds, and recreational facilities. These tables provide an informal, communal atmosphere, and their multi-size capabilities make them suitable for various outdoor settings.  Traditional picnic tables include a long rectangular shape tabletop supported by a frame with attached benches on both sides. These tables are available in different lengths, ranging from 6 feet to 8 feet or even longer, allowing businesses to accommodate larger groups. A standard 6-foot picnic table can comfortably seat around six to eight people, while larger tables can accommodate up to 10 or more individuals. They also have many ADA-compatible options for guests who are wheelchair-bound. For a more contemporary and unique seating arrangement, round, square, or hexagonal picnic tables are an excellent choice. These tables typically feature a central pedestal or support structure, with individual seats or benches attached around the perimeter. Round picnic tables often come in diameters of 4 to 6 feet, providing seating for four to eight people, depending on the size. Hexagonal tables offer even more seating capacity, usually accommodating six to eight individuals. To cater to younger guests, it is often beneficial to include children's picnic tables in outdoor seating arrangements. These smaller-sized tables are designed with lower heights and appropriately sized benches, providing a comfortable and safe seating option for children at schools, parks, and outdoor eateries. Children's picnic tables usually accommodate four to six young individuals, allowing them to enjoy outdoor dining or activities alongside their families. Businesses need to consider the dimensions and seating capacity of picnic tables when selecting the most appropriate table design for their space and intended usage so that everyone - regardless of age, size of the group, or physical ability - can enjoy a comfortable seating arrangement.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Outdoor Seating

When selecting furniture for your business' outdoor seating area, it is important to consider various factors in order to make the best decision. These factors include functionality and purpose, durability and weather resistance, comfort and ergonomics, aesthetics and branding, space and layout, and budget and cost considerations. Doing so will ensure that you choose the best furniture for your establishment.

Functionality

Does the area require dining-style seating or is it for lounging? Perhaps the seating will be used for outdoor events or gatherings, such as parties and barbeques. It is essential that the furniture is able to appropriately accommodate people's needs while at the same time making the space attractive and inviting. Determine the primary purpose of your outdoor space. If it's mainly for dining, prioritize tables and chairs that provide ample space for food and beverages. For lounging areas, focus on comfortable seating options such as sofas, lounge chairs, fire tables, or daybeds. If your outdoor space will host events or gatherings, consider flexible seating options like modular furniture or movable benches that can be rearranged to accommodate different group sizes and seating arrangements.

Material and Finishes

When it comes to the materials used for outdoor furniture, it needs to maintain durability in your outdoor environment. Materials of outdoor furniture will determine if it will provide long-lasting service or if you will need to replace it year after year. Provine choices include aluminum, wrought iron, teak, and synthetic wicker, all of which are known for their durability and weather resistance. Additionally, to increase the longevity of metal furniture and make it easier to maintain, you can have the piece powder coated. This process applies a protective layer of poly-based paint to the metal that helps protect against rust, corrosion, UV rays, and scratches, and ultimately ensures that the material can withstand outdoor conditions. The level of maintenance is also important to note when keeping furniture in great-looking condition. Depending on the material, some furniture may require regular cleaning, or protective treatments to prevent deterioration from exposure to the elements. Alternatively, other materials can withstand outdoor factors with little to no extra care, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors without stressing about regular maintenance.

Comfort

Comfort is key. Prioritize seating options that offer comfort and support, such as adding cushions with high-density foam or ergonomic designs for patio furniture that promote proper posture and relaxation. If the outdoor seating will be used for extended periods, consider features like adjustable backrests, armrests, and ergonomic contours that provide optimal support and comfort for patrons.

Aesthetics

When selecting a seating style for your outdoor area, think about how it will fit into the overall design. Aesthetics is paramount, so pick something that ties in with the environment, making it look warm and inviting. Consider the architectural style, colors, and design elements when deciding to ensure that the aesthetic is cohesive and visually appealing. You may want to explore ways to customize your seating and reinforce your brand identity with logos or a unique color scheme. Doing so will help create a memorable outdoor experience for all who use it. Spacing

Take into account the available space and layout of your outdoor area. Measure the dimensions accurately to ensure that the selected seating options fit comfortably without overcrowding the space. Budget

Evaluate your budget for outdoor seating, considering both the initial investment and long-term expenses. Keep in mind that higher-quality materials and construction may require a larger upfront investment but can result in lower maintenance and replacement costs over time. Seek a balance between quality and affordability. Consider reputable brands that offer durable and well-constructed seating options within your budget range, ensuring that you prioritize long-term value and customer satisfaction.

Materials for Outdoor Seating

Selecting the appropriate materials for commercial outdoor seating is crucial for creating inviting and durable spaces that can withstand the elements while providing comfort to patrons. With a wide range of options available, it's essential to understand the characteristics and benefits of different materials. In this section of the Ultimate Commercial Outdoor Seating Mega Guide, we will explore the various materials commonly used for outdoor seating, including metal, wood, plastic/resin, and wicker/rattan.

Metal

Metal seating options have long been favored for their durability and timeless appeal. Different metals offer distinct advantages. Aluminum is a popular choice for outdoor seating due to its lightweight nature, corrosion resistance, and ease of maintenance. Steel and iron are heavier metals known for their exceptional strength and sturdiness, making them ideal for areas with high traffic or exposure to harsh weather conditions. Metal seating often features protective coatings or finishes that enhance rust resistance. Powder-coated or galvanized finishes provide an added layer of protection, ensuring longevity and minimizing maintenance requirements.

Wood

Wooden outdoor seating combines natural beauty with durability, making it a timeless choice for commercial spaces. Various wood options offer unique qualities. Teak is highly prized for its natural oils and dense grain, making it resistant to rot, insects, and weathering. Cedar is known for its aromatic scent and natural resistance to decay and moisture. Other hardwood options like ipe, acacia, and shorea offer durability and a rich aesthetic. Wooden seating provides a warm and inviting ambiance, adding a touch of elegance to outdoor spaces. While some woods naturally weather to a silvery gray patina, periodic maintenance like cleaning, sealing, or applying protective coatings can help retain the wood's original appearance.

Plastic

Plastic and resin seating options are lightweight, affordable, and easy to maintain, making them a practical choice for many commercial establishments. Plastic resin materials are lightweight, allowing for easy rearrangement or storage. MGP and recycled plastic furniture are also highly resistant to weather elements, fading, and rust, requiring minimal maintenance. Poly seating comes in a wide range of colors and styles, allowing businesses to select options that match their desired aesthetic or brand identity. They can mimic the appearance of other materials such as wood or rattan, providing versatility in design.

Wicker

Wicker and rattan seating options offer a classic, natural look and feel, adding a touch of charm to outdoor spaces. While traditionally made from natural fibers, synthetic alternatives are gaining popularity due to their enhanced durability. Wicker and rattan seating evoke a sense of comfort and relaxation, making them popular for outdoor lounging areas. The woven texture adds visual interest and a touch of organic appeal. Synthetic wicker or rattan options, made from materials like resin or polyethylene, offer increased durability and weather resistance. They can withstand exposure to sunlight, moisture, and temperature fluctuations without fading or warping.

Concrete and Granite

Using materials sourced from Earth offers great durability and longevity in furniture. From their natural colors and patterns, granite and concrete have a unique aesthetic that makes pieces look timeless. Because of their weight and structure, these materials are also secure and ideal for areas that need extra security. Naturally, these rock-like materials are also resistant to many external weather conditions. However, due to their large mass, installation, and transportation of these materials can be difficult. If you wish for furniture with long-lasting effects and minimal maintenance, the brief period of installation will be a worthy investment.

Maintenance and Care

Once you have carefully selected the ideal outdoor seating for your commercial space, it is essential to prioritize maintenance and care to ensure its longevity and continued appeal. Regular cleaning, seasonal considerations, and prompt repair and replacement are crucial aspects of maintaining commercial outdoor seating. In this section of the Ultimate Commercial Outdoor Seating Mega Guide, we will delve into the key factors to consider when it comes to maintenance and care.

Clean

Establish a routine cleaning schedule to keep your outdoor seating in pristine condition. This may include removing debris, dusting, and wiping surfaces regularly. Use appropriate cleaning agents and techniques based on the materials used in your seating. Follow manufacturers' guidelines to prevent damage. Consider applying protective coatings or treatments to enhance the durability of your seating. For example, applying weather-resistant sealants or finishes to wood can protect it from moisture and UV rays. Utilize cushions or covers to shield seating surfaces from direct exposure to sun, rain, and debris.

Store

In regions with harsh winters, it is advisable to store outdoor seating during the colder months. Clean and dry the seating thoroughly before storage, and choose a suitable location that is protected from the elements. If storage is not possible, consider using covers or tarps to safeguard the seating from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Invest in weatherproof covers specifically designed for your seating. These covers provide an extra layer of protection against rain, snow, and sunlight when the seating is not in use. Ensure the covers fit properly to prevent moisture build-up and promote adequate air circulation.

Repair

Regularly inspect your outdoor seating for signs of wear and damage. Look for cracks, loose screws, rust, or tears in cushions. Promptly address any issues to prevent further deterioration. Repair or replace damaged parts as needed, following manufacturer guidelines or consulting with a professional if necessary. Take proactive measures to extend the lifespan of your outdoor seating. This includes using appropriate cleaning products, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, and not exceeding weight limits. Adhere to weight recommendations to prevent structural damage and ensure the safety of users. Regularly maintain moving parts, such as hinges or swivel mechanisms, and replace worn-out cushions or upholstery when necessary.

By implementing a comprehensive maintenance and care plan, businesses can prolong the life of their commercial outdoor seating, reduce the need for frequent repairs or replacements, and provide a pleasant experience for patrons. Proper cleaning, seasonal considerations, and proactive repair and replacement practices contribute to preserving the appeal and functionality of outdoor seating, ultimately enhancing the overall outdoor ambiance of your commercial space.

Design Trend and Inspiration

The design of commercial outdoor seating plays a pivotal role in creating inviting and appealing spaces that attract customers and enhance their overall experience. To stay ahead in the competitive market, businesses must stay informed about the latest design trends and draw inspiration from innovative concepts. In this section of the Ultimate Commercial Outdoor Seating Mega Guide, we explore design trends and inspiration that can help you transform your outdoor spaces into captivating and functional environments.

Maximizing Space and Seating Capacity

Efficient space utilization is crucial when designing outdoor seating layouts. Incorporate space-saving techniques such as modular furniture arrangements, built-in seating along walls or ledges, or multifunctional pieces that can serve multiple purposes. Explore creative ways to maximize seating capacity while maintaining comfort and accessibility. Design seating areas that encourage socialization and relaxation. Consider creating cozy nooks with privacy screens or dividers, incorporating comfortable seating arrangements like lounges or hammocks, or arranging seating around focal points such as fire pits or water features. Balancing comfort, aesthetics, and functionality will enhance the overall ambiance and allure of your outdoor space.

Colors and Patterns

Stay up to date with current color and pattern trends to create visually appealing outdoor seating areas. Neutral and earthy tones continue to dominate the outdoor design, evoking a sense of calm and harmony with nature. However, pops of vibrant colors in accessories, umbrellas, or cushions can add visual interest and create focal points. Consider the surrounding environment when selecting colors and patterns for your outdoor seating. Choose hues that complement the natural landscape or architectural elements. Incorporate patterns inspired by nature, such as floral, botanical, or geometric motifs, to add visual texture and create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Options

With an increasing focus on sustainability, opt for outdoor seating materials that are eco-friendly. Choose materials like reclaimed wood, recycled plastic, or sustainable natural fibers. Additionally, consider suppliers or manufacturers that follow environmentally conscious production practices, such as reducing waste or using renewable energy sources. Integrate greenery and natural elements into your outdoor seating design. Incorporate planters, vertical gardens, or living walls to add a touch of freshness and create a soothing environment. Use eco-friendly cushions or upholstery made from recycled or organic materials. Embracing nature not only contributes to sustainability but also enhances the overall aesthetics and ambiance of the outdoor space.

By keeping abreast of design trends and drawing inspiration from innovative concepts, businesses can create outdoor seating areas that captivate customers and set their establishments apart. Thoughtful seating layouts, harmonious color schemes, and sustainable practices not only enhance the visual appeal but also contribute to a memorable and enjoyable outdoor experience for patrons. Elevate your commercial outdoor spaces by incorporating these design trends and inspirations, and let your seating become a reflection of your brand and a magnet for customers.

Conclusion

Selecting the right outdoor seating is crucial for enhancing the overall ambiance and experience of commercial outdoor spaces. By considering factors such as functionality, durability, and aesthetics, businesses can create inviting and functional seating areas that attract and retain customers. The choice of materials, maintenance and care routines, and adherence to design trends all play significant roles in elevating the outdoor seating experience.

We recommend businesses carefully evaluate their specific needs and preferences when choosing outdoor seating. By prioritizing factors such as durability, weather resistance, and comfort, businesses can invest in seating options that withstand the elements, require minimal maintenance, and provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for patrons. FAQ

Q: How do I choose the right size of outdoor seating for my space?

Q: Can I customize outdoor seating with my company's logo?

A: Yes, we offer customization options for outdoor seating, including the ability to add your company's logo or branding elements. Depending on the material and design of the seating, customization options may include engraving, embroidery, screen printing, or custom cushions with your logo. If the marks are especially hard to remove, you could try paint thinner or another more aggressive type of cleaner.

Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific care instructions based on the material of your outdoor seating.

Q: Are there specific regulations or permits required for outdoor seating in commercial spaces?

A: The regulations and permits required for outdoor seating in commercial spaces vary depending on the location and local ordinances. It is important to check with your local government or relevant authorities to determine if there are any specific regulations or permits that need to be obtained. This may include considerations such as zoning regulations, health and safety requirements, outdoor dining permits, or compliance with accessibility guidelines. Consulting with local authorities will ensure that you meet all necessary requirements and operate within the legal framework for outdoor seating in your area.

Aluminum Bleachers vs Concrete Bleachers: Which is Best?
Aluminum Bleachers vs Concrete Bleachers: Which is Best?

When it comes to spectator events and big venues, bleachers are a popular seating choice due to their practicality and ability to accommodate large crowds. The two common options for commercial bleacher material are aluminum and concrete. Both aluminum and concrete bleachers offer versatility in terms of their application such as whether the bleachers are used indoors at schools and auditoriums or outside at sports stadiums and concert stages. Each type has its advantages and limitations, and to make an informed decision, we need a side-by-side comparison of both. In this article, we provide insights into each so you can make an informed decision about which type of bleacher is the best choice for you.

Understanding Aluminum Bleachers

Aluminum bleachers possess several notable characteristics that make them a popular choice in many settings. Firstly, the cost of aluminum bleachers is generally lower upfront compared to concrete bleachers. They do not require a ground foundation and their lightweight, portable design allows for easy installation, making them the budget-friendly choice. Despite their lightness, aluminum bleachers are durable and weather-resistant, capable of withstanding various outdoor conditions. Furthermore, they require minimal maintenance, reducing long-term upkeep costs.

Advantages of Aluminum Bleachers

Aluminum bleachers offer several advantages over their concrete counterparts. One key benefit is the ease of installation and relocation. Unlike concrete bleachers that require complex construction, aluminum bleachers can be assembled and disassembled with relative simplicity. Many aluminum bleachers are designed with features such as tip and roll systems or the option to add wheels, making them highly suitable for temporary seating arrangements. This flexibility allows for easy adjustments to seating arrangements as needed.

Plus, aluminum bleachers provide customization options, including the ability to modify the number of rows and the addition of guardrails and handrails. This adaptability ensures that the seating arrangement can be tailored to specific requirements and safety standards.

Moreover, aluminum bleachers are often more cost-effective than concrete bleachers. The lower initial cost and reduced installation complexity make them a practical choice for those on a limited budget. The cost-effectiveness of aluminum bleachers does not compromise their quality or durability, as they are built to withstand various weather conditions and provide long-lasting performance.

Limitations of Aluminum Bleachers

While aluminum bleachers offer numerous advantages, it's important to consider their limitations as well. One significant limitation is their weight capacity and load limitations. Due to their lightweight nature, aluminum bleachers may not be suitable for large-scale events with a substantial number of attendees. It's crucial to assess the expected load requirements and ensure that the selected aluminum bleachers can safely accommodate them. Breaking up large venues with smaller bleacher sets will help mitigate load limitations and capacity weight.

Another aspect to consider is the vulnerability of aluminum bleachers to vandalism or theft. Their lightweight construction makes them more susceptible to damage or unauthorized removal. However, there are practical measures that can be taken to address these issues. surface mounting the bleachers to a concrete foundation can deter unauthorized movement while also enhancing stability. Additionally, when the bleachers are not in use, storing them in a secure location can provide an added layer of protection.

By being aware of these limitations and taking appropriate precautions, the potential drawbacks of aluminum bleachers can be lessened. It's important to assess the specific needs and circumstances of the venue or event and implement measures to ensure the safe and secure use of aluminum bleachers.

Exploring Concrete Bleachers

Concrete bleachers offer distinct advantages over aluminum in terms of their permanence and robustness. The solid concrete construction creates a long-lasting seating solution that can withstand the test of time. The durability of concrete bleachers makes them highly popular in high-traffic venues such as outdoor auditoriums and amphitheaters. Thanks to their heaviness, concrete bleachers are resistant to theft providing peace of mind for venue owners and event organizers. Unlike aluminum bleachers, which can be more susceptible to impact damage and graffiti, concrete bleachers are known for their resilience in the face of such challenges.

Advantages of Concrete Bleachers

Concrete bleachers are recognized for their solid construction and durability. They offer high load-bearing capacity, making them capable of holding large crowds and ensuring the safety of spectators. Concrete bleachers are better able to withstand temperatures extreme and harsh weather. Because of this, they are most suitable for outdoor venues subjected to varying climate conditions.

Another notable advantage of concrete bleachers is their permanence. Once installed, concrete bleachers provide a permanent seating solution that will last decades. This long-term seating is ideal for fixed locations that consistently require seating, such as sports stadiums or permanent event venues. Unlike temporary seating options, concrete bleachers do not require regular assembly or disassembly, providing a reliable and convenient seating solution.

In terms of maintenance, concrete bleachers are known for their minimal upkeep requirements. They are highly durable and resistant to wear and tear, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements. This aspect not only saves time and effort but also contributes to cost savings over the lifespan of the bleachers.

Limitations of Concrete Bleachers

Despite their strength concrete bleachers are not impervious to damage. Plant matter such as moss loves to grow on concrete on the concrete surface, leading to deterioration if routine cleaning and maintenance are neglected. This requires regular attention to keep the bleachers in optimal condition.

Another drawback of concrete bleachers is their lack of portability. Unlike aluminum bleachers, which are lightweight and easy to relocate, concrete bleachers are fixed structures that cannot be easily moved. This can be a disadvantage if seating arrangements need to be altered or bleachers are needed in different locations over time. The fixed nature of concrete bleachers limits their flexibility in adapting to changing needs.

Furthermore, the initial cost of concrete bleachers tends to be higher compared to aluminum bleachers. This is primarily due to the expenses associated with foundational construction, including excavation, forming, and pouring of the concrete, as well as the labor required for installation. While concrete bleachers offer long-term durability, the higher upfront investment may be a deterrent for those with budget constraints.

Aesthetics also come into play when evaluating concrete bleachers. They are often considered less visually appealing compared to other seating options. Concrete bleachers have a utilitarian appearance that may lack the contemporary design elements seen in aluminum or other materials. The concrete material can give a space a cold and industrial feel, which may not align with the desired ambiance or aesthetics of certain venues.

In summary, it's important to recognize that concrete bleachers, despite their strength, have their limitations. They require routine cleaning and maintenance to prevent deterioration caused by plant growth. The lack of portability restricts their adaptability to changing seating needs. The higher initial cost, associated with foundational construction and installation labor, may pose financial challenges. Additionally, the utilitarian appearance of concrete bleachers and their potential to make a space feel cold should be considered when evaluating their suitability for a specific venue.

Other Factors to Consider When Choosing Bleachers

When faced with the choice between aluminum bleachers and concrete bleachers, it's essential to consider several key factors that can greatly influence the decision-making process. Determine whether the bleachers will be installed temporarily or permanently and if they will be used indoors or outdoors. Different settings and events may have specific code and zoning requirements that need to be met. It is crucial to ensure that the chosen bleachers comply with ADA accessibility requirements and adhere to local building codes and regulations. Conducting thorough research about your local requirements beforehand is essential to avoid potential compliance issues.

In recent years, environmental concerns have gained significant importance in the construction industry. Evaluate the initial environmental costs and long-term impact of the chosen bleacher type. Concrete production, for example, is known to have a significant carbon footprint due to the energy-intensive process of cement manufacturing. On the other hand, aluminum is highly recyclable, which contributes to its environmental appeal. However, it's worth noting that the overall environmental impact of a bleacher system is not solely determined by the material used but is also influenced by other factors such as transportation, installation methods, and maintenance practices. Assess the environmental costs associated with each bleacher type, as well as the expected lifespan of the structure to help make an informed decision.

Summary and Conclusion

Commercial bleachers play a crucial role in providing seating solutions for a wide range of events and venues. When making a decision between aluminum and concrete bleachers, it is important to take various factors into account. Aluminum bleachers are known for their lightweight portability, making them easy to transport and install. They are also cost-effective and offer a plethora of customization options. On the other hand, concrete bleachers provide a high load capacity and exceptional durability.

In summary, the decision between aluminum and concrete bleachers should be based on careful consideration of factors such as budget, expected usage, maintenance requirements, and long-term plans for the venue. By thoroughly evaluating the advantages and limitations of each option, you can make an informed choice that best suits your specific needs and priorities.

Galvanized steel, on the other hand, is a bit stronger and more durable than aluminum, so it is less likely to bend or dent under extreme weight or force. If your bleachers will be used inside and regularly, this material may be a better choice for you.

Both premium frame materials feature non-tip construction, non-slip footing and a bolted assembly; therefore, regardless if you choose aluminum or galvanized steel, your bleachers will provide extra stability when in use.

Multiple configurations and sizes

Product Spotlight - Bleachers on Wheels

No matter what your application, event size, or budget, Furniture Leisure has a bleacher configuration to meet your specific needs. We have bleachers with two rows of benches all the way up to five rows, and bench lengths ranging from 7.5 feet to 27 feet. Larger configurations, like our 21-Foot, 5-Row Tip and Roll Aluminum Bleacher, are ideal for bigger events and spectator sports, accommodating up to 70 adults. Our larger bleachers also include non-marring wood sill legs under the frame to prevent floor scratches and scuffs.

For smaller functions, consider our 7.5-Foot, 3-Row Tip and Roll Bleacher that seats or stands up to 15 adults. This more compact seating option is great for church choirs, small school clubs, and more. This and our other tip and roll bleachers come in two riser heights: 8-inch risers are better for adults because they provide more leg room when they sit, while 6-inch risers are best-suited for children and teenagers.

With 15 different tip and roll bleacher configurations to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect solution for your space.

Portability-plus

Tip-N-Roll Bleachers

The biggest benefit of our tip and roll bleachers is that no matter their size, these seating systems are easy to move. Designed with four commercial swivel casters on the back side of the bleachers, simply tilt the unit into the upright position to glide it smoothly to a storage area or against a wall where it takes up minimal floor space. The non-marring caster wheels are extremely durable and won’t damage your floors while in transit. And, for added convenience, our two- and three-row tip and roll bleachers can easily pass through most standard doorways.

Even our largest model, the 27-Foot, 5-Row Tip and Roll Bleacher, is easy to transport with its heavy-duty casters. When this bleacher is in the upright position, two locking brakes can be engaged to keep the unit from rolling.

Tip and Roll Bleacher Benefits by Furniture Leisure

These versatile seating systems let you create different seating configurations for your events quickly and easily based on room size, function, or need. But, before you order your tip and roll portable bleachers, make sure you plan accordingly:

  • Check your local code requirements before you order to find out if there are any specific requirements for portable bleachers.

  • Due to their size, liftgate delivery service is not available for our bleachers, so be sure you have the resources and equipment to unload the items upon arrival.

  • While all the main frame components of our bleachers come pre-assembled with bolts, lock washers, and nuts, some assembly is required.

  • Contact our associates at 800-213-2401 with any questions!

Don’t invest in a heavier bleacher that’s difficult to move; choose Furniture Leisure’s tip and roll so you’ll be ready to rock and roll!

When It Comes to Outdoor Furniture, Don’t Cut Corners – Choose Commercial-Grade Products
When It Comes to Outdoor Furniture, Don’t Cut Corners – Choose Commercial-Grade Products

If you’re looking to furnish your outside surroundings – whether it’s your commercial recreational space, pool lounge area, park, restaurant, or school campus – it doesn’t pay to have furniture meant for residential use. In truth, YOU could pay greatly if a guest or visitor injures themselves while using your residential-grade furniture. Manufactured with less durable materials, lighter weight limits and lower overall quality standards, residential-use furniture such as outdoor chairs, benches, and poolside furniture can be precarious. The last thing you want is for someone to fall through a seat or tumble to the ground because the furniture was overused or wasn’t built to withstand enough weight.

Commercial outdoor furniture, on the other hand, reduces your liability and ensures peace of mind because every piece is designed specifically for excessive everyday use and, therefore, held to higher industry standards. Let’s explore the many benefits of commercial-grade furniture:

Safety benefits

  • Industry-tested and certified

While all furniture manufacturers must comply with regulatory requirements in order to guarantee their products are safe for the end user, commercial-grade furniture suppliers are held to even more stringent standards and their products must pass a series of durability, stability, and weight-bearing tests. At Furniture Leisure, all our supplier furnishings, including our own exclusive RHINO outdoor furniture, meet or exceed the criteria established by associations such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) and Fenestration & Glass Industry Alliance (FGIA), formerly known as the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA).

RHINO Commercial Picnic Table

  • Heavier weight capacities

To accommodate all your guests and visitors, you need furniture that can comfortably seat and hold a wide range of body sizes and weights. Our commercial chairs typically have up to a 300-pound weight capacity, like our Havana Classic Stacking Commercial Plastic Resin Armchair. Ideal for poolside, patio and outdoor restaurant seating, these commercial chairs with powder-coated aluminum legs and an attractive wicker look are a comfortable yet affordable option. If you’d like seating that’s rated for even heavier weight capacity, consider our Westport MPC Stackable Adirondack chair. It boasts a whopping 20.5-inch wide seat and can hold up to 400 pounds.

Westport Commercial Adirondack

  • More durable materials

Your furniture will need to handle daily use by many different people, which means it needs to be constructed of heavy-duty materials that can stand up to the test. At Furniture Leisure, our commercial outdoor furniture is available in many different materials and styles to suit your needs. Here are just a few of the commercial-grade components we offer that guarantee quality and longevity:

When you invest in a better frame structure and materials, you can rest assured your furniture will be safe and dependable for your guests.

Additional commercial-grade benefits

Along with all the safety advantages, our commercial furniture also has these benefits you don’t normally get with residential-grade products:

  • Customizations

Make your furniture your own with a variety of customization options – from incorporating custom logos to choosing from multiple frame and cushion color combinations. Furniture Leisure lets you be as unique and creative as you’d like.

Kingston Deep

Do you want to make an impression in your patio area? Choose from over 20 coordinating or contrasting cushion colors for our Kingston Deep Cushion Seating Sofa. How would you like to brand your school’s trash receptacles? With our custom logo trash cans, you can! Perhaps you’re looking to memorialize a patron or promote a business? Our helpful associates will help you do just that on a wide variety of custom logo and memorial benches.

Custom Logo Commercial Bench

  • Better warranties

All of our commercial outdoor products come with solid manufacturer warranties that back their materials and workmanship. If for some reason the product has an issue, Furniture Leisure and/or the manufacturer will repair or replace it at no charge. However, because our products are made of the highest quality from the most reputable suppliers, they usually outlive their warranties for years of dependable use.

  • Bulk orders

As a commercial enterprise, you need to know the outdoor furniture pieces you want can be bought in multiples and, more importantly, at quantity discounts. At Furniture Leisure, we’ve got you covered on both fronts! Whether you need five, 12, 20, or more, we’ll ensure we have the stock and the best price for you.

When it comes to residential versus commercial outdoor furniture, there is no comparison. Commercial furniture offers so much more: more quality, more safety, more certifications, and more assurance. See for yourself with this side-by-side comparison of a stacking Adirondack chair:

Residential vs Commercial

If you’re a business or organization that caters to the public, don’t cut corners by using residential furniture. Call Furniture Leisure today at 1-800-213-2401 to see the breadth and depth of our commercial outdoor furniture offerings. Our associates will be glad to show you around our site, suggest great product options for your needs, and provide a fast quote along with a timeline of deliverables.

The Evolution of Furniture Leisure Inc
The Evolution of Furniture Leisure Inc

As the New Year approaches, it gives pause to reflect on past accomplishments and prepare to set sights even higher on future performances. Furniture Leisure Inc. has come a long way since its humble beginnings back in 2003 and continues to make customers’ needs our number one priority. Throughout the years, Furniture Leisure Inc. has acquired several online sites and tailored them to assist thousands of our customers with their commercial furniture purchases. Whether it be online orders, quote requests, or estimates over the phone, we always strive to make the process of purchasing site amenities as convenient as possible and at the best prices. Below is a glimpse of the acquired sites, changes made, challenges overcome, and new implementations we are looking forward to!

Furniture Leisure Inc.

Furniture Leisure Inc. started in 2003 when long-time travel salesman of hospitality furnishing John Gravlee decided to bring quality commercial outdoor products to a larger audience as the internet and Google boomed in popularity. Together with his wife Aida Gravlee, who specializes in sales and customer service, began the fundamentals that are still seen within the company today! Find out the complete history of how John and Aida’s union nurtured a small family-owned business into a multi-million dollar company on the About Us page!

Furniture Leisure

The same year, Furniture Leisure officially launched bringing with it a platform for purchasing the greatest commercial outdoor products available in the industry. The site included top-of-the-line selections of commercial picnic tables, commercial pool furniture, trash & ash receptacles, commercial umbrellas, barbecue grills, bike racks, and so much more!

Furniture Leisure 2017

2008 Furniture Leisure

Today Furniture Leisure carries over most of its older fundamentals but the website has been reconstructed to better serve landing guests. The layout is clean and easy to navigate. Users find their desired products based on category selections and narrowing down chosen options. The website is compatible with tablet and mobile devices for browsing on the go. Our toll-free phone number always displays on the top so you can call anytime you have a question or would like a quote. And as always, a live experienced customer service representative is ready to assist anytime during business hours. Furniture Leisure offers a complete catalog of commercial site furnishing, so guests can order everything they need for their park and pool while saving on cost, shipping, and time when obtaining a written quote.

Picnic Furniture 2007

Picnic Furniture

Following the success of Furniture Leisure, the site Picnic Furniture was built in 2004. This new site was geared toward the market of commercial picnic tables, trash receptacles, park benches, and other outdoor amenities. Although similar to Furniture Leisure in many ways, Picnic Furniture was configured with different menus for better product access. The setup for Picnic Furniture was designed for a visiting guest to locate the type of picnic table quicker based on the shape and style of the model.

Throughout the years, Picnic Furniture has undergone a few menu changes and style upgrades to assist customers with product finding better.

Picnic Furniture 2016

Picnic Furniture is now the leading supplier of outdoor furniture to schools, parks, hotels, apartments, daycare centers, and more! The interface has been simplified and cleared, leaving easy-to-read icons. The site is jammed pack with informative blog posts including custom furniture guides, care & maintenance articles, and other interesting topics regarding commercial outdoor furniture. Pages are free from distractions and products are easily found! A welcome improvement that has been appreciated by all users.Picnic Furniture 2022

Park Tables

Fast forward to 2011, ParkTables.com was acquired. Park Tables' focus was on states and cities looking to add or upgrade the furniture in their parks. The product inventory is exclusive to outdoor park amenities for a convenient one-stop shop experience.

Park Tables 2019

2012 Park Tables

For well over ten years, Park Tables has provided the best commercial park furniture. But now the product catalog has only gotten better! In addition to state and local parks, Park Tables’ inventory has expanded to include amenities for type-specific parks, such as dog parks, fitness parks, campgrounds, and playgrounds! The product listing only intensifies the site’s objective to provide everything you need for park furnishing in one convenient location!

Pool Furniture Supply 2012

Pool Furniture Supply

While Park Tables is set to meet the needs of parks, Pool Furniture Supply was established to fulfill the needs of commercial pools. Later in 2011, Pool Furniture Supply made its debut with instant success! Customers tasked with buying furniture for their hotels, resorts, HOAs, and waterparks now had a site dedicated to providing them with only the best commercial pool furniture in the industry. Establishments in the hospitality business could invest in furniture for their pool area without needing to replace the furniture yearly after purchasing cheap chaise lounges and patio sets from retail stores.

Pool Furniture Supply is still the leading provider of commercial pool furniture in the industry! Like all the other sites owned by Furniture Leisure Inc., Pool Furniture Supply has since been given a much-needed upgrade, making it easier for users to browse! Our service now includes pool layouts to further assist customers in their pool renovation projects.

Picnic Table Supplier

A few years later in 2014, Picnic Table Supplier joined the ranks exclusively to sell… you guess it, picnic tables! Picnic Tables Supplier took the original formula of Picnic Furniture by categorizing commercial picnic tables based on the models’ type and shape while adding picnic tables specific to venues. The design allows a customer to locate a certain type of picnic table without needing to scroll through large listings. PicnicTableSupplier.com was also the first of the sites to arrive on the latest platform during its launch. Currently, Picnic Table Supplier remains unchanged but our developers are working diligently on upgrades to enhance the site’s image and user-friendly interface!

Picnic Table Supplier Current

Overcome Challenges

We are proud to still be a leading provider of commercial outdoor furniture. But the road to Furniture Leisure Inc.’s success was far from paved. Nearly twenty years since start-up search engines have made several reforms to their platforms, changing the way sites are found during searches. We improved all our websites to ensure they stay relevant while never sacrificing customer care or performance. The spawn of Covid-19 sadly was the end of many respectable businesses. But with what seemed like the darkest days for most, Furniture Leisure Inc. shined through with record sales. The proceeding supply shortage of materials did heavily impact the cost of items and left an undetermined lead time expectancy that has never before been seen. Now, most of the materials are steadily coming in. Although there are lead times for custom furniture that remain long, most Quick Ship products are available at one to two weeks again!

We’re Never Done! More to Come!

There is much on the agenda as we enter 2023 and our twenty-year anniversary!  Picnic Table Supplier as mentioned is expecting a relaunch with new designs and features. The color picker function is set to be on more products giving customers a glimpse of how products will look before purchasing.  Filters are being optimized for quick selective searches. Specification sheets, installation instructions, and care maintenance information will be included on all products when available. And of course, new quality commercial products are added daily!

Furniture Leisure’s message and motto have been and remain simple: “Where Furniture and Leisure Come Together to Make Life Better.” It is not only to relay the comfortability of the product sold but to express how easy it was to purchase commercial furniture online confidently. Our mission will always be to provide the best commercial outdoor furniture with unmatched customer service. Despite the many challenges, Furniture Leisure Inc. continues to excel through the devotion of dedicated staff, the quality of products and vendors, and the overwhelming support from our customers! Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in the New Year!

3 Easy Steps to Winterize Your Outdoor Pool Furniture
3 Easy Steps to Winterize Your Outdoor Pool Furniture

Falling leaves and dropping temperatures mean winter is right around the corner. As your property begins to close down its outdoor pool and amenity areas for the winter, don’t forget to add an important task to your to-do list: winterize your outdoor furniture.

At Furniture Leisure, we’re proud to say our commercial pool furniture is built to last. Made with non-corrosive, weather-resistant materials and tested to meet ASTM standards, our poolside chairs, tables, lounges, and cushions are designed for years of use in commercial environments. When you order from us, you know you’re getting quality through and through.

To get the most out of your purchase, we recommend you winterize your outdoor furniture before the harsh winter elements hit your area. By following these three easy steps, you’ll not only extend the life of your pool furniture, but you’ll also ensure it’s ready to use come springtime.

Step 1: Clean

Commercial pool furniture is typically constructed of three main materials – metal, plastic resin, and fabric. Here are our tips on cleaning each material type before you store it for the winter:

  • Metal – Our cast aluminum and aluminum frame furniture doesn’t require heavy cleaning but should be washed with mild detergent and warm water. Rinse it with a hose and then hand dry it to make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies so as not to have water residue that can cause problems in storage.

  • Plastic – Furniture made from marine-grade polymer, recycled plastic, and plastic resin is virtually maintenance-free, which is why these materials are popular choices for pool furniture. And while they are durable and low maintenance, it’s still best practice to clean off any dirt and residue at the end of the season. Wipe these plastic-based materials down with mild detergent and water and either air dry or hand dry.

  • Fabrics – All our furniture fabric – from Sunbrella acrylic to marine-grade and sling fabric – should be cleaned at least a few times a year to help it maintain its beauty and keep it free of mold and mildew. First, vacuum or shake off cushions to remove surface dirt and remnants. Next, hand washes or hose down the fabric with mild soap and water. If you have any stains, try a bleach/detergent mix to remove them; do not use bleach on printed or cotton fabric. Allow your cushions to air dry completely before storing.

Cleaning Patio Furniture Before Storage

Step 2: Repair Aluminum tubing frame that cracked due to frozen water trapped inside

Once you’ve properly cleaned all your furniture and cushions, and made sure they are completely dried, inspect each piece for any repairs that may be needed. If you see any exposed metal where the finish has been scratched or chipped, lightly sand the area and apply touch-up paint to seal it. Aluminum tubing furniture must be kept dry inside and out to prevent cracking. If water does get into the tubing and freezes, it can cause the frame to crack and leave a gaping hole.

After checking the frames, look for loose or broken straps and missing feet protectors on your pool chairs, and inspect your cushions for damaged fabric. If you aren’t able to fix them yourself, call us at Furniture Leisure for assistance. Having your pool furniture in tip-top shape before you store it will save you time and headaches when you bring it back out for pool season.

Step 3: Cover and Store

Once you’ve properly cleaned all your furniture and cushions, and made sure they are dried and repaired, now you’re ready for storage. Ideally, you’ll want to stack and store your pool furniture inside a building to keep it dry and safe. But if you don’t have the space or means to do that, use a tarp or furniture cover to protect your pieces from the elements. Furniture left outdoors should be checked periodically during the winter months. Brush off any snow or water on the covers to prevent buildup and potential damage. Pooled water could result in moisture on the inside of your cover, and it will have a harder time evaporating.

Covered Furniture During Winter

Get your staff together to spend a day prepping your pool furniture for winter storage. Working as a team, they’ll ensure your furniture is clean, dry, and ready for guest use as soon as Mother Nature brings back the warm weather.

It runs 65,000 BTUs on standard propane, but can also be fueled by natural gas. The 54-inch diameter top provides room to hold drinks or small plates around the fire and, when the fire pit is not in use, you can cover it with the included frame-matching lid to turn it into a casual dining table. An electronic ignition system makes it easy to start up, and clear crystal fire gems conceal the burner underneath to create a beautiful fire and ice display.

For a more upscale look, consider our 42-inch Square Venice Commercial Fire Pit with Granite Top that offers added features and customizations. The square, granite top comes in a choice of luxurious color schemes, as well as thicknesses and edging styles. You can also choose from multiple fire glass colors to tie together your other outdoor décor. This 40,000 BTU fire pit produces an adjustable flame as low as 1 inch and as high as 20 inches, allowing you to change the heat output and mood. For added convenience, this Venice fire pit table offers a number of accessories to make it multi-functional, including a tempered glass wind guard to protect the flame from the open air, a stone or stainless steel burner lid that turns the top into a formal dining table, a Lazy Susan kit that fits under the stone cover for easier food sharing, a table cover to protect the table from outdoor elements, and a full cooking package to create a hibachi-style experience.

Underneath housing in the base accommodates a standard propane tank which is easily accessible by a side panel door. Choose to add a glass frame guard and burner cover to complete the piece.

Add Attractive Outdoor Heaters

Commercial Propane Heater for Restaurants

Along with your fire pit table, consider placing portable propane heaters around your outdoor space and dining tables to maintain a continuous, comfortable temperature for all your guests. Our Commercial Outdoor Propane Heaters provide the ultimate in functionality and versatility. Wheels under one side of the base allow you to easily tilt and move them around where needed. The pole diameter fits a standard umbrella hole so you can integrate it with your existing patio tables, or you can opt to have the heater fitted with an optional balcony- or bar-height table to create a warm, bistro-style gathering spot.

Each propane heater uses a standard 20-pound propane tank and offers 46,000 BTUs. The electronic ignition allows you to start the heater up quickly and a handy dial lets you adjust the amount of heat emitted. The sturdy powder-coated aluminum frame and matching marine-grade polymer base stand up to the outdoor elements for long-lasting use and enjoyment. If your outdoor space is typically windy, we offer 5-pound weight sets to add to the base for extra stability. With nine different frame colors to choose from, these heaters are sure to complement your other furniture.

Memorial Bench Commemorates Mother and Infant Son
Memorial Bench Commemorates Mother and Infant Son

Outdoor park benches are a place to socialize, read a good book, and simply relax while taking in the surroundings. But they can also serve as a special space to celebrate an important event or honor a fallen friend. A family in Henderson County, Kentucky did just that when they ordered a memorial bench to remember a loving mother and her son who perished in 2021.

Braelen Hicks-Schaefer and her one-year-old son, Weston, died tragically in an automobile accident – leaving a huge hole in the hearts of Braelen’s husband and family members. To pay tribute to their loved ones, Braelen’s aunt, Jamie McCormick, contacted Furniture Leisure to create a memorial bench that they could place at a local ballpark where Braelen played as a child and was most recently a coach.

Braelen and Weston

Braelen’s family customized a memorial bench with a heartfelt message and large, printed vinyl photos of Braelen and Weston. Jamie expressed her gratitude to Furniture Leisure for bringing their bench vision to life. “I wish you guys were closer to come out for the unveiling to see how happy our friends and family will be…all thanks to you!”

The beautiful bench was unveiled in August 2022 and now sits at the Baskett Recreation Park in Henderson County where families can see their smiling faces and know Braelen and Weston are cheering the players on.

Braelen and Weston Memorial Bench

The Hicks-Schaefer family said they take comfort in knowing Braelen can forever watch the games she grew up to love and are hopeful that the bench will keep Braelen and Weston’s memories alive at the ballfield.

To the Hicks-Schaefer family, friends, and community, we appreciate the opportunity and trust you gave us to make this memorial bench in honor of Braelen and Weston a reality. It has been an absolute privilege working with you, even through this difficult time. The bench is beyond beautiful and so is the heartfelt message behind it. Braelen and Weston are truly blessed to have such loving, caring people in their lives. Thank you from all of us at Furniture Leisure. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

Types of Commercial Shade and Where to Use Them

People love to be outside. And properties that boast about their outdoor area would agree. The fresh air, sunshine, and atmosphere make for a pleasant environment for all to enjoy. However, the sun can be both friend and foe with relentless heat. There needs to be some relief during the day for guests to cool down and be more comfortable. When trees are not present, artificial shade is a great solution to take a break from the brutal sun. You might want to consider adding commercial shade for longevity. These options can provide protection for your patrons and outdoor equipment for years with little maintenance! But which is the best fit? When selecting the right type of commercial shade for your property, there are several considerations that should be made. While adhering to your budget is obviously important, other factors to keep in mind include whether you're looking for a solution that's portable or permanent, altitude, and design.

Cantilevers feature an offset post that allows the maximum center shade without obstruction. They're available in square and octagonal shapes, ranging in size from 9' to 13'. These umbrellas are a great option if you're looking for a solution that doesn't require you to break ground or make permanent changes to your property.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass umbrellas are ideal when you're looking for a shade option that can withstand higher winds. These shades feature a hard, fiberglass top that is more resilient in the wind compared to its fabric equivalent.

Fiberglass umbrellas are available in sizes ranging from 6' to 8' and come in the following styles:

Wind Rating

It's important to remember that single center posts and cantilever umbrellas should be closed when winds exceed 20 mph. Remember, “If the umbrella dances around, it is time to put it down.” Fiberglass umbrellas aren't officially wind-rated, however, they can typically resist winds up to 50 mph due to their solid canopies when properly secured with the high wind upgrade.

Cabanas

Cabanas give an exotic, secluded feel for vacationers or residents when enjoying the sites. They are often used as rental spaces to provide a private, intimate setting for guests to make the most out of their experience. Portable cabanas can also be a means of providing decent coverage to any location on demand as they are easy to assemble on-site as needed.

Benefits

  • Provides a private solution for your patrons
  • Can choose from semi-permanent or portable
  • Can generate additional revenue for rentals
  • Easy to store

Where to Use Cabanas

Cabanas are best for large commercial properties with spacious poolside or beachside areas, such as luxury hotels, resorts, country clubs, and beachside condominiums. This type of shade typically stands up in areas with lower sustained wind ratings.

Types of Cabanas

Beach Cabanas

Beach cabanas are an ideal option if you're looking for an exotic shade that adds a luxurious feel to your waterfront properties. These cabanas are large enough to cover two chaise lounges. Each segment is custom-made with Sunbrella or Outdura fabric and can include a back vent to allow breezes to escape.

Pop-Up Tents

Pop-up tents are large, square shades with a completely portable potential. They allow you to place shade whenever and wherever it is needed. Curtains can be included for patrons to have more shade and privacy, along with adding an air of luxury to the outdoor space. They're available in sizes ranging from 10' x 11' to 11' x 11'.

Fabric Pavilions

Fabric pavilions are similar to pop-up tents but feature semi-permanent footing. Because of this, you can choose to include battery-operated lights and fans to condition the covered space below. Full curtains are also an option to completely cloak one or more sides of the perimeter. Fabric pavilions are square and 10' x 10'.

Wind Rating

Due to its portable nature, the wind load for Cabanas is only as good as the mount. The legs will need to be weighed down by sand or secured to a surface to hold up against wind gusts. Beach cabana and pop-up tents are not an official wind test but are estimated at 25 mph. However, if the shade starts to fight the gusts, it's time to take it down. Being a semi-permanent structure, fabric pavilions are estimated to withstand an estimated 30 mph when installed appropriately.

Fabric Shade Structures

Fabric shade structures are permanent structures that are prime for the shading of large areas. They offer the greatest shade area for the price making them a promising solution to beat the heat for all locations! It is worth noting that these shade canopies are often 80% waterproof, which means that some leakage will occur if rainfall is heavy. Despite this, the breathable fabric acts as a vent making it excellent against heavier winds.

Benefits

  • Permanent installation means they don't need to be put away daily or seasonally
  • Can withstand strong winds
  • Affordable cost per sq. ft of shade for most standard models

Please note: It's important that canopies on fabric shade structures are removed when ice, snow, or strong hurricane-force winds occur. Because they are permanent structures, engineering drawings may be required for installation permits. Structure specs may differ by location.

Where to Use Fabric Shade Structures

Fabric shade structures are a good option in regions where winds are typically higher and where permanent shade is beneficial. They can be installed on a variety of property types, including playgrounds, residential carports, sports complexes, zoos, restaurants, dog daycares, and amusement parks.

Types of Fabric Shade Structures

Shade Umbrella

Shade umbrellas feature a center pole and range in size from 10' to 20’ in diameter with entry heights ranging from 8' to 12'. These umbrellas come in square and hexagonal shapes.

Shade Cantilever

Shade cantilevers come in a variety of shape options. Single-column cantilevers range in size from 8' to 20' with entry heights of 8' to 12'. Styles include:

These fabric shades can also be purchased with double-column cantilevers that range in size from 20' x 10' to 24' x 14' with 8' to 12' entry heights. Style options for double-column cantilevers include:

Hip End Shades

Hip-end shades come with four or more columns and are available in rectangular, square, and hexagonal styles. They range in size from 10' x 10' to 38' x 38', with entry heights that range between 8' and 12'. Custom sizes of up to 60' x 60' are also available. Hip-end shades offer the most amount of shade for the least amount of cost.

Sail Shades

Sail shades provide a great deal of shade and a stylish look. Sail shades in particular, due to the customization options, can get rather expensive when compared with other types of commercial shades or fabric structures. These shades don't feature support rafters, and as such, their columns are typically quite large and need to be surface mounted to ensure stability. These triangular and/or square shades come in three different formations: equilateral, isosceles, and hyperbolic. Sizes can be customized, with the largest triangular shade being 50' x 50' x 50' and the largest square being 35' x 35'. Options include:

Wind Rating

Fabric Shade Structures have a sustained wind rating of 76 mph with hurricane force-1 wind gusts of 105 mph. To ensure high ratings, all beams and canopy must remain fixed in place without the ability to adjust.

Metal Shelters

Commercial metal shelters are a solid, powerhouse protection against every outdoor element including snow, hail, rain, and sun. The complete construction is made from industrial steel for permanent coverage and durability. Metal shelters' strength and longevity come at a price which makes them the most expensive shade solution option.

Benefits

  • Can withstand heavy winds, rain, hail, and snowfall
  • A permanent structure that doesn't require regular adjustment or moving

Where to Use Commercial Metal Shelters

Commercial shelters are best in locations that experience unstable weather patterns. The solid roof provides a protective cover making it a great addition to properties such as restaurant patios, schools, amusement parks, local parks, ranches, and picnic areas. They make a great cover alongside picnic and barbecue areas, as well as playgrounds and other outdoor gathering areas.

Types of Commercial Metal Shelters

Hip End Metal Shelters

Hip-end Metal Shelters come in several shapes, including square, rectangle, hexagon, and octagon. The hexagon and octagon shapes can measure as large as 64' in diameter while square and rectangle shades can be as large as 50' wide.

Gable End

Gable End shelters feature an A-frame roof to offer the most height clearance and can be made as large as 50' x 104'. Ideal for housing large equipment and even animals.

Mini and Kiosk

Mini Metal Shelters and Kiosk can be made as large as 12' x 12' and make a great addition to park benches, bus stops, and small picnic areas. Kiosk shelters make a great option for properties that need to post outdoor signage and cover community mailboxes.

Wind Rating

They withstand winds of more than 90 mph and hold a snow load rating of more than 10 PSF. It's important to note that these ratings can vary depending on the model and site installation.

Selecting the Right Commercial Shade Option for Your Business

After reviewing all these options you may have a better idea of what type of shade to establish on your commercial property.  However, there are several variables you should consider as well. Before committing to a purchase, take time to think about the following factors to ensure your satisfaction.

Cost & Availability

For most businesses, budget is the biggest consideration to make when selecting any temporary or permanent structure for shade. Commercial shade can cost anywhere from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars so it's important to determine what the most adorable option is while you do your research. In most cases, the more temporary a shade structure is, the more affordable it is. That being said, umbrellas are typically the most affordable option while metal structures, which are the most permanent and sturdy choice, are the most expensive.

If you're in a hurry to add shade to your property, availability will be a factor too. Because umbrellas are widely available and are typically stocked, there isn't a long wait time to receive them. Metal shelters are permanent, and because they require engineering and construction, they generally take months to produce and days to install.

Portability

Being able to move your shade throughout your property or disassemble it for easy cleaning may also be a considerable factor. If you're looking for something portable that can easily be taken down and stored, then umbrellas or tents are the way to go. In contrast, if a more stable shade is required then the fabric shade structure and the metal park shelter are the right choices.

Maintenance

Keeping your property clean and well-maintained is important and as such, you want to look for a shade that will be easy to clean and keep in good repair. Permanent structures are typically the easiest to maintain so if you're after something that's easy to clean and won't require repairs too often, a metal structure might be the best choice. Umbrellas and fabric shades are typically quite easy to clean. However, extreme weather can cause wear to the fabric or joints when not put down in a timely manner. While repairs are simpler to conduct, they may be needed more often.

Coverage

Size is everything when it comes to shade. You could potentially space out umbrellas to cover the grounds or maybe you want to cover the whole thing with little sunlight entry using a fabric structure. Knowing how big the space is and in what increment you want the shade are vital questions when determining your options.

Typical Weather Conditions

Depending on where your property is located geographically, you might face intense weather from time to time. If snowstorms, hurricanes, or high winds are common in your area, consider adding a permanent shade structure instead of fabric shades or umbrellas. Additionally, if you're adding shade to a rooftop patio or another area at a higher elevation, you might experience higher winds, and if so, something more permanent can be a better solution here, too.

Adding shade to your property is a great way to make sure that your guests feel comfortable when they spend time outdoors. By following the recommendations outlined above, you can make sure you select a commercial shade structure that suits your location, budget, and style.
